“People have a hard time letting go of their suffering. Out of a fear of the unknown, they prefer suffering that is familiar.” ~Thich Nhat Hanh

Indeed – that’s a great message for a lot of people. Especially the part about familiar pain. It’s the reason many people won’t leave their current situations. Good stuff. 👍🏽

  2. I’ve read somewhere (I believe it was J. Krishnamurti) that said, we foolishly fear what we don’t know. We fear death when we don’t know what death is. If anything we should fear life but many of us do not know how to live. Maybe should grasp this understanding of life.

I absolutely love all your posts. Coming from someone who struggled with an eating disorder, it’s refreshing to to read enlightening, positive and self-motivating reads. Keep up the great blogging.

When you stare only in the dark, your eyes become accustomed to it and the light will be blinding, a threat to that which you are accustomed to. It is not a strange thing to be fearful of this. Change is not easy, you have to want it and it takes work, effort, an investment of time and worth…. and often the self worth of the ones inflicted is deemed so low (by themselves) not be worthy of such effort. Thus you cling to the familiar dark rather than let go and explore new things.

The sad truth is mostly that the person likes the pain, as they feel they are deserving of it more than anything else.

  5. So true and very heartbreaking to see. You can only guide a horse to water, but you can’t make them drink. If only… But then, then you have the very strong who look pain in the face and just smile and tell it to get lost! Let’s keep the faith and stay strong and believe that we can all be that way. xoxo
